The ebony from Madagascar (Diospyros perrieri) is one of the finest and, nowadays, one of the rarest as well. It is known by its dark chocolate color, great tap tone, and sustain; it is probably the most resonant ebony. It is the easiest to work and the stiffest and heaviest at the same time. The awesome aesthetics and unique acoustic properties make it the favorite of most luthiers, including ourselves.
