Western red cedar (Thuja plicata) is known for its bassy, warm tone, but when it is truly exceptional, it can also produce great mid-range and treble notes.
We are now putting on sale a high-quality selection of Western red cedar tops from our private stock of different ages, all naturally dried for use in classical, acoustic guitars, and basses. The oldest were sliced around 10 years ago and were salvaged from naturally fallen trees during the 1960s and 1970s storms in the margins and along the Kootenay River in British Columbia, Canada. These were very large and old trees; the exact age is hard to tell. Then the selection goes from 2001 to 2019 stock.
You will be amazed by the tap tone of most of the tops, bassy and glassy with long-lasting sustain and harmonic complexity.
