Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) is a tonewood that has been pointed out as a natural substitute for Brazilian rosewood. However, apart from some aesthetic resemblances, Cocobolo has life on its own. It is highly resonant as Brazilian rosewood but has more mid-range than Brazilian rosewood. A wonderful, warm tone, highly projective with powerful sound, it produces a magnificent instrument paired with either spruce or cedar top.
This stock comes mostly from our private collection, where one can find some superb back and sides sets. We have been gathering these sets for the past 10 years, the average age it goes from 10 to 20 years old, and it is old growth and naturally air dried.
