We all know the excellent acoustic properties of mahogany; this particular type is commonly referred to as Brazilian, Honduran, or American mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla). Great balance with deep basses, warm tone, and excellent overall resonance. It is likely the reason that has been widely used by Martin and Taylor guitars, as well as by well-known luthiers.
This stock comes from 60-year-old boards from slow-growth old trees, with very tight and even grain, and it is perfectly quartered. It is denser and heavier than usual, so it has a higher resonance and sustain.
