African ebony (Diospyros crassiflora), also known as Gaboon or Cameroon ebony, has been widely used in many sorts of musical instruments, mostly in fingerboards. It is a first choice for many luthiers, despite nowadays getting scarce and expensive. The dark color and excellent acoustic properties, mostly for fingerboards, make it a first choice for most luthiers.
