Tonal
properties:
Very responsive, loud and clear
tap-tone. Sounds very loud with deep basses and a great overall frequency
response with very brilliant separation on high frequencies. Used in fingerboards
provides a very good transmission and sustained sound.
The
grain can be straight or interlocked and the texture is typically medium to
fine.
Easy
to work but sometimes due to interlocked
grain may cause some working difficulties. Glues and finishes well.
Is
stiff and very resistant with an average
dried weight nearly of 52 lbs/ft3 or
825 kg/m3.
It
is a dominant tree, it attains heights of about 40 m and diameters of 100 cm. Grows
on Brazil's Eastern coastline from the equator South to Rio. The natural growth
range of this species is reported to be restricted to the non-inundated forests
of the lower Amazon basin in Brazil.
The
sapwood and heartwood are not clearly differentiated. The wood is lemon yellow
becoming yellowish pale brown color with flamed silver stripes.
