Camatillo

Scientific name: Dalbergia congestiflora
Trade name: Camatillo, Mexican Kingwood.
Also known as Guatamala rosewood and Mexican kingwood also granadillo.
Origin: Mexico, Central America and Brazil.

Instrumental uses:

Guitar back and sides, fingerboards, bridges, head plates, bindings and inlays.

Tonal properties:

Typical as all hard rosewood is very responsive. Sounds very loud with deep basses and a great  response over all frequency range. Mostly used for grand concert guitar building.

Easy to work and finishes extraordinary bright.
Is an extremely dense exotic wood with average dried weight 80 lbs/ft³ (1,280 kg/m³)

Grows in low deciduous forests of Mexico, Central America and Brazil. Very similar to Brazilian Kingwood, is a tree that can measure between 5-7 m, it can reach 10 m high. Sapwood is a pale yellow and the heartwood is dark purplish, violet to reddish brown and yellowish brown. Very stiff and is also very resistant. Among the densest and strongest rosewoods.

CITES status is protected under the Appendix II. Is not reported on the IUCN Red List.
